The Portland Chinatown Museum opened Thursday, June 7, the first museum of Chinese American history and culture in Oregon.
The Museum is the result of a four-year collaboration among the Portland Chinese community, the Portland Chinatown Historical Foundation, and funding organizations, including Prosper Portland, and focuses on preserving the history of the neighborhood, one of the goals of the Old Town/Chinatown Five-Year Action Plan.
The Museum will anchor the Chinatown Historical Foundation and maintain this key nonprofit presence in the neighborhood; its intended programming will address the critical issues of our time – immigration, national and ethnic identity, gender and race.
