The grand opening of the A/C Marriott Hotel at SW 3rd and Taylor on Thursday, April 13 marked the completion of a construction project that delivered on both minority contracting and green building goals.
As a partner on the project, Prosper Portland sold the property to the development team of McWhinney, Mortenson Development and Sage Hospitality, and our MWESB, apprenticeship and green building policies applied throughout. The project is on track to achieve LEED Silver certification. Minority hours were 25% of the total project; apprentice hours totaled 28%; hours for women totaled 6%.
The 204-room hotel provides much-needed downtown inventory and increased employment in the central city and is projected to generate more than $600,000 in property tax revenues and $1,000,000 in transient lodging tax revenues annually. The contracting experience gained on this project will serve Mortenson well as it begins construction soon on the Convention Center Hotel and Garage.
