In 2024, Portland City Council approved the OMSI District Plan, which calls for a vibrant, inclusive new neighborhood and community destination rooted in innovation, culture, arts, and science learning at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) Campus in Portland’s Central City.
Encompassing 24 acres of transit-oriented, mixed-use development, 1,200 units of new market rate and affordable housing, more than 11,000 new jobs, climate and sustainability solutions, and a one-of-a-kind public learning ecosystem, the OMSI District will also restore Tribal presence on the Willamette River and serve as a platform for innovation, spreading opportunities throughout the state and the region.
Prosper Portland will provide $16.9 million of infrastructure investment for the streets and utilities necessary for new housing and commercial development with the OMSI Campus Redevelopment.Developers Edlen & Co. and Hacienda CDC have partnered to bring forward the first development project within the OMSI District. Together, they will transform a parking lot on SW Water Ave into a much-needed 100-unit affordable housing project estimated to cost $36 million.
