The Local Small Business Expanded Repair/Restore Grant program has reopened.
The grant program provides funding to small businesses located in the City of Portland that have sustained physical and economic damage due to break-ins and vandalism. Grants assist eligible businesses to remain open and operational and contribute to maintaining a healthy street environment.
Originally funded with American Rescue Plan, limited tax increment finance dollars, and city general fund, the program concluded at the end of 2024 when all available funds were exhausted. Over four years, the program provided more than 1,100 grants totaling close to $4 million to business owners throughout the city. Councilors Tiffany Koyama Lane, Dan Ryan, and Sameer Kanal led the work to allocate $1 million of funding to relaunch the program during last month’s city budget approval process.
“The Repair/Restore grant has a proven track record of providing essential support for small business owners,” said Mayor Keith Wilson. “Thanks to the leadership of Councilors Koyama Lane, Ryan, and Kanal, we were able to secure additional funding for this program. I also want to thank the staff at Prosper Portland for developing this grant and maintaining the infrastructure to quickly reopen it.”
“I have made it my priority to go out onto our main streets and ask storefronts what they need from the City to succeed,” said Councilor Dan Ryan. “Many of these storefront businesses are just one more broken window away from closing up shop. This program is a lifeline for local family businesses, which we need to support a thriving Portland into the future.”
“We are delighted this grant program is returning,” said Prosper Portland Interim Executive Director Lisa Abuaf. “We have seen how critical this support can be for small businesses. This news, coupled with the recent launch of the Office of Small Business at Prosper Portland, allows us to further enhance our support for and engagement with small businesses throughout the city.”
Grant applications are now open. Eligible entities may receive up to $25,000 over the life of the program for eligible repairs. Prosper Portland will provide the grant on a reimbursement basis. The application will remain open until all available funds have been disbursed.
