Portland City Council has approved, unanimously, the Portland Development Commission’s urban renewal plans for six proposed Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative (NPI) districts, all in east Portland.

Six community groups applied successfully to be in the NPI program and will partner with the city to build capacity for community-specific economic development. Each district will be a separate urban renewal area with about $1 million in tax increment revenue to invest over the next nine years in small bricks-and-mortar projects like storefront and street lighting improvements.

The six districts are NE 42nd Avenue, NE Cully Blvd., Parkrose, Rosewood, Division-Midway and SE 82nd Avenue and Division. Each community will drive the decisions for its own district.

PDC Executive Director Patrick Quinton said, “We applaud the community work that drove this process forward, and appreciate City Council’s support of this key initiative in our neighborhood economic development strategy.”
