The Portland Development Commission’s Economic Opportunity Initiative (EOI) will hold a Business Partner Recognition luncheon Tuesday, April 20 at the Governor Hotel, to thank businesses that currently work with EOI and encourage them to expand their involvement with the program. Since 2004, the EOI has partnered with businesses to link good workers and good employers. The ultimate goal is to drive community prosperity by both helping Portland businesses with their workforce needs and providing disadvantaged Portland workers with the skills for lifetime success.
“The Economic Opportunity Initiative exemplifies the best of Portland’s business community and its values,” said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. “Helping make economic prosperity a reality for many of Portland’s low-income residents, EOI’s focus on customized trainings, internships and employment opportunities is more needed than ever. I’m grateful to the businesses that support and invest in our community and look forward to even greater results in the future.”
The luncheon will include an introduction by Mayor Sam Adams. Keynote speaker Thomas Higgins (founding CEO of biotech company Prosetta Corporation, former president/CEO of Business for Social Responsibility, and founding publisher/former president of the Portland Business Journal) will talk about the business benefits of corporate social responsibility. The event will conclude with a panel of EOI business partners including KGW-TV, Rejuvenation Hardware, Dave’s Killer Bread, and The Standard. Panel members will discuss how they work with an EOI Project.
