At its July 1 meeting Portland City Council approved two new members of the Portland Development Commission Board of Commissioners, nominated by Mayor Charlie Hales. Gustavo J. Cruz Jr. and William “Willy” Myers will join the commission this summer.

Cruz is a senior counsel at the law firm Ater Wynne with a practice in commercial finance, corporate finance and general business matters. He was born in Portland and has been active on several nonprofit boards, including the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, where he currently serves as board chair, and the Northwest District Association.

Myers is executive secretary of the Columbia Pacific Building and Construction Trades Council, and formerly worked for the Sheet Metal Workers Local 16. Among his community activities, he sits on the state’s Prevailing Wage Advisory Committee and the Metropolitan Alliance for Workforce Equity.

The two new board members will each serve a three-year term expiring in 2018. They replace previous members John C. Mohlis and Charles A. Wilhoite, both of whom retired from the PDC board at the end of June. The remaining members are Chair Tom Kelly, Vice Chair Aneshka Dickson and Commissioner Mark Edlen.
