The City of Portland and the Oregon Consular Corps will host the third annual International Business Awards and Scholarship Dinner on May 15, 2012, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Portland Art Museum. The event is part of World Trade Week May 14-18, a series of discussions and activities designed to help Oregon companies tap into foreign markets.

The awards dinner celebrates Portland’s globally-focused businesses and four of Oregon’s leading academic institutions participating in the OCC Scholarship program.

“The city’s economic development strategy calls out our commitment to recognize international investors for their leadership in community development and job creation,” said Mayor Sam Adams. “We’re very pleased to team with the Oregon Consular Corps to further that goal.”

The City of Portland will present awards honoring foreign direct investment and/or leadership in international business through exporting to Intel, Columbia Steel Casting, Deck Monitoring, Chris King Precision Components and International Container Terminal Services.

The Oregon Consular Corps will recognize Dr. Thomas Alva Bartlett and the World Forest Institute’s International Fellowship Program for outstanding service in expanding Oregon’s global environment.

The dinner also supports the Oregon Consular Corps scholarship program, which provides opportunities for local students to advance their studies and careers in international affairs. For ticket information please contact Susan Atkins atsusan@classactevents.net.

World Trade Week, hosted by Business Oregon and local partners, will include the International Road Show, a statewide opportunity for Oregon’s small– and medium–sized enterprises exporting goods and services to learn about assistance in accessing foreign markets from state, local and federal government agencies. Portland-based events include one-on-one company meetings with representatives of the European Union, Greater China (including PRC, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan), Japan, and Korea.
