OHSU Center for Health and Healing South

The Center for Health & Healing South (CHH South) is a two-block development adjacent to the existing Center for Health & Healing (CHH) building at SW Moody & Gibbs St. Its completion will mark an important milestone for Oregon Health & Science University’s expansion in the South Waterfront and its growth within the Central City.

As the city’s largest employer and as a center of research and innovation that will lead to new jobs and economic growth, OHSU plays a critical role in the development of the North Macadam Urban Renewal Area. Its 15,000 employees serve more than 250,000 patients each year. Designed by ZGF Architects and built by Hoffman Construction, the $200 million Center for Health and Healing South project will offer ambulatory care in a 15-story hospital building built above existing parking, connected to the existing CHH via skybridge. A second building, known now as the Rood Family Pavilion, will provide patient housing and parking, as well as conference facilities and urgent care on the ground floor. The 76 rooms on the top five floors will house patients coming to Portland for treatment from across the state and region. The project broke ground in April 2016 with expected completion in 2019.

South Waterfront Development Agreement

The South Waterfront Development Agreement, which originated in 2003, has guided significant public and private investment in the development of the central district, transforming the area into a vibrant, sustainable mixed-use neighborhood that offers open space, commercial, retail, institutional and educational facilities as well as a range of housing options at various levels of affordability. Notable recent projects include three major additions to the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) campus and a privately owned, market-rate apartment building.
