PDC representatives head to China

May 29, 2015

PDC Executive Director Patrick Quinton and International Business Development Officer Michael Gurton will travel to Beijing, Hangzhou, and Hong Kong in June for a week-long trip centered on trade and investment with China.

A portion of the trip will be in partnership with the Paulson Institute, a think tank set up by former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to work with Chinese leaders on sustainable urban development. The Institute will bring a delegation of 25 leaders from Hangzhou to Portland later this summer.

In a lead-up to the trip, PDC sponsored a workshop on doing business in China, featuring Paul Saydak, managing partner at Blue Sky Pan-Pacific in Portland and a veteran of a decade in China managing numerous cross-border transactions. China is Oregon’s largest foreign trading partner and critical to our state’s economy. Saydak shared effective strategies to counter the common mistakes that American companies make when negotiating with the Chinese. PDC staff wrapped up the session with a discussion of the city’s strategy to develop trade and business partnerships in China.
