The Portland Development Commission (PDC) and Columbia River Economic Development Council (CREDC) have launched a financial assistance program for local clean tech companies seeking product certification services. PDC and CREDC will partner with Intertek Testing Services, NA, Inc., an independent certification lab.

PDC Executive Director Patrick Quinton said, “We’re pleased to create this pathway for more of our clean tech industry partners to enter the marketplace, and we welcome the opportunity to work with our colleagues in Washington to help the region’s clean tech businesses.”

Successful applicants will complete a two-step process and receive partial funding to complete a product certification test. Support for the program comes from federal grant funds awarded to the Portland region by the U.S. Economic Development Administration Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge. Product certification will enhance companies’ ability to sell their goods or services on the market and thereby strengthen the region’s clean tech sector. The deadline to complete the first step in the process, completion of the Intake Request for Intertek Product Certification Services, is February 18 at noon PST.

“At Intertek, we are committed to partnering with our customers to help them bring new innovations to market and achieve their goals around green initiatives,” said Rich Adams, Senior Vice President at Intertek. “We are proud to work with the PDC as they evaluate clean technologies for the Portland region.”

To be considered for this opportunity, company applicants must meet a minimum of three requirements. First, they must be either a clean technology firm, entering the clean technology marketplace, or in (or entering) the clean technology supply chain. Second, firms must have a location and an economic impact in one of the following five counties: Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington (state of Oregon), Clark, or Cowlitz (state of Washington). Third, certification work must be completed by June 30, 2015.
